Four films made in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary are shown in Chisinau by the embassies of the four states within an event held to mark the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Visegrad Group. The first screening was held at the residence of Poland’s Ambassador to Moldova Artur Michalski on November 7, given that Poland now holds the Presidency of V4. The reception culminated with a dinner with traditional Polish food prepared by chefs invited from Poland, IPN reports.

The Visegrad Group, also called the Visegrad Four or V4, is a cooperation alliance of four Central European states – Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. The Polish diplomat, welcoming the invitees, said the presentation of the four films made in the four states is an attempt to promote the culture of these states in the Republic of Moldova.

Artur Michalski noted that about 65 million people live in the V4 states that form an important community at European level. At the same time, the four states cooperate more intensely with the Republic of Moldova. “I hope the watching of films together will also bring us closer,” he stated.

Attending the reception, Minister of Culture Monica Babuc underlined the importance of such events, saying the Visegrad Group countries are the ‘suffering sisters’ of the Republic of Moldova because they had a practically common history and encountered the same difficulties. “It’s hard to imagine that other European nations can be closer to us from this viewpoint,” she stated, adding that the presence of the Visegrad Group in Moldova lays the foundations of valuable political relations, while the four states fully support Moldova in its efforts to come closer to the EU.

The films made in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary will be shown during the next three weeks.
