Cultural events on National Costume Day

Traditional Moldovan costumes will be exhibited at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History and at the Cultural-Natural Reserve “Orheiul Vechi” on June 26, on the occasion of the National Costume Day. This year’s edition is devoted to the file “The Art of the Traditional Blouse with Embroidery on the Shoulder (Altiță) - an Element of Cultural Identity of Romania and the Republic of Moldova” that is to be included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, IPN reports.

Between 11am and 1pm, those interested are invited to see the exhibition of traditional costumes at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History. The National Costumes House “Casa Cristea”, the Handicrafts Complex “Rustic Art” in Clișova Nouă village of Orhei district and folk music singers Ioana Căpraru, Mariana Dobzeu, Valentina Volontir, Veta Ghimpu-Munteanu will exhibit national costumes from the own collections.

The festivity will be accompanied by recitals by the National Folk Music Orchestra “Lăutarii” led by Nicolae Botgros. There will be staged interactive contests and workshops.

The activities at the Cultural-Natural Reserve “Orheiul Vechi”, including exhibitions, embroidery workshops, sittings and performances of music, will be held between 10am and 9p. Starting at 7pm, Vali Boghean will give a recital.

“By organizing such an event, we aim to promote the authentic Romanian costume, to popularize the components of the costume and its symbols, to propagate techniques for making national costumes at national and international levels,” the Ministry of Culture said in a press release.

The multinational file “The Art of the Traditional Blouse with Embroidery on the Shoulder” was submitted on March 29, 2021 and will be assessed in the 17th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of November/December 2022.
