The Supreme Council of Magistrates (CSM) is examining the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office to withdraw the immunity of the vice president of the Chisinau Court of Appeals Gheorghe Cretu in a closed-door meeting. The judge is accused of accidentally killing Sorin Paciu while hunting in the Domneasca Forest, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Council members voted for the meeting to be closed, arguing they have questions that can affect the investigation. Gheorghe Cretu is attending the meeting. But Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko, who is an ex officio member of the CSM, is absent as he is on leave until next week. If Gheorghe Cretu is deprived of immunity and is investigated criminally, he will face up to three years in jail. The 34-year-old Sorin Paciu from Chisinau died in the hospital 2 days after he was wounded from a gun during hunting on December 23. The case was made public only on January 6, when politician Sergiu Mocanu accused the prosecutor general of killing Sorin Paciu and of hiding this fact. Valeriu Zubko denied the accusations in an open letter.
