The Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) approved the request for resignation of Judge Ion Druță from the position of chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ). The decision was adopted at the meeting on Thursday, October 24, IPN reports.
Acting Chairman of the Council, Dorel Musteață, said that the request of the magistrate was received on October 1. The resignation request was examined in the absence of Ion Druță.
As a result of the deliberations, the resignation of Ion Druță was accepted with the vote of seven CSM members out of the eight present at the meeting. The decision of the Council is to be submitted to Parliament.
At the same meeting, the CSM agreed to initiate criminal prosecution against a judge, following the notification of the interim general prosecutor, Dumitru Robu. It concerns a magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice. The decision of the Council can be appealed within 30 days.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office accused the CSJ Chairman of committing the offence of illicit enrichment. Ion Druță was detained on October 2, but on October 4, Chisinau Court, Ciocana headquarters, ruled against the anticorruption prosecutors' request to put him under arrest.
