The projects implemented within the crossborder cooperation programs essentially contribute to improving the living standards in Moldova, especially in districts. The new programs envision greater financing, but also increased responsibility. Such statements were made in the national conference “Crossborder cooperation: accomplishments and prospects for the Republic of Moldova”, IPN reports.
Prime Minister Iurie Leanca underlined the success and importance of the crossborder projects, referring to such projects as the building of a waste sorting plant in Calugar village of Falesti district, which will serve 11 villages of the region. The hundreds of crossborder projects implemented led to the creation of workplaces, rehabilitation of roads and water supply systems, community and health centers, schools and nurseries. Among the projects that are to be launched are projects to construct bridges over the Prut and Nistru Rivers. In 2015, the State Chancellery will implement a project to increase the project management capacities, which is designed especially for local public authorities and NGOs.
“These are vital projects for our good neighborhood relations with Romania and the European Union, and with Ukraine as well. These are programs that contribute to enhanced living standards in villages by implementing new practices in agriculture, improving the quality of medical services and developing tourism,” stated the Premier. He voiced hope that Moldova will take part in such projects in the future, not as a neighbor of the EU, but as a candidate country.
“The goal of the European Union is to support the sustainable development and to address the common challenges. We want to see prosperity, good governance and security at our borders and beyond them,” said the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola. He appreciated the trilateral cooperation between Moldova, Ukraine and Romania, saying the EU allocated €81 million for the Moldovan-Romanian cooperation segment alone.
Currently, Moldova is involved in three crossborder cooperation programs: the Joint Operational Program Romania-Ukraine-Republic of Moldova, the Black Sea Basin Joint Operational Program, and the South East Europe Transnational Cooperator Program.
