A number of problems related to transport in the Transnistrian region were solved with the signing of the protocol agreement between the chief negotiators of Chisinau and Tiraspol. Consequently, it will be known who the owners of motor vehicles are and who will answer before the law in case of violations of the road traffic rules or accidents, First Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Cristina Lesnic stated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
According to her, earlier there were suspicions as to the owners of motor vehicles with Transnistrian license numbers. The signing of the protocol agreement is a step towards solving the problem of owners of motor vehicles from the right side of the Nistru who, for particular reasons, preferred to register them on the left side.
“A new element of the protocol decision is the fact that the Republic of Moldova will fully take part in the registration and reregistration of these units of transport. Last but not least, we will not have a double registration system. This means that those who will want to go abroad with neutral license plates issued as part of this voluntary system will be obliged to first withdraw the Transnistrian license plates,” stated Cristina Lesnic, adding that those who will not apply for neutral license plates will be able to travel within Moldova’s borders only.
The official noted that any car that will be registered or reregistered will be included in the database of Interpol and this means additional checking of motor vehicles in Transnistria and of what happens to them.
The protocol agreement signed on April 24 provides that the owners of motor vehicles in the self-proclaimed Transnistrian republic will receive neutral license plates and will be accepted to international road traffic as of September 1 this year.
