Cristina Cojocaru resigns from National Integrity Commission

Cristina Cojocaru, who was recently appointed on civil society’s recommendation, quit as a member of the National Integrity Commission. In the resignation submitted to the Head of Parliament and the chairman of the parliamentary legal commission, Cristina Cojocaru says she is not really convinced that the Commission was constituted legally, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Moreover, I think that the National Integrity Commission does not have legitimacy before the people and cannot fulfill its duties as expected by society. As a member of the Commission, named on the recommendation of civil society, I believe that tendering my resignation is a matter of honor to me,” it is said in the resignation. The National Integrity Commission’s task is to verify the property and the conflicts of interest involving persons holding high-ranking public posts, judges, prosecutors, civil servants and persons occupying executive positions. After the Liberal Party’s representative Anatolie Donciu was appointed as chairman of the National Integrity Commission, in a news Conference on October 29 the head of the Resource Center for Human Rights Sergiu Ostaf stated in the name of civil society organizations that this decision directly infringes the Law on the National Integrity Commission and decisively undermines its independence and functionality.
