The representatives of Romania have always raised the issue of Moldova’s European integration in the dialogue they had with the European partners. There is support for Moldova in Europe and admiration for the progress made by it. There is admiration for the strength, courage and determination by which Moldova set off on this road, the President of the Romanian Senate Crin Antonescu said in a public lecture at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, IPN reports.

According to the Romanian official, the EU represents the most modern model of cooperation between those who promote the freedom and prosperity. The EU is an area of freedom, economic and social progress, and the unity of the European citizens for whom the human rights have preeminence. “I assure you that this is the best road, but not the easiest. We live a favorable moment for Moldova, which goes to a new destiny, to prosperity and economic growth,” said Crin Antonescu.

He also said that Romania is near Moldova and will do its utmost for it to continue its European road without stops. “In Romania there has always been political unity as regards the support for Moldova. This support was and remains unconditional and permanent. It always was so and should be so,” stated the President of the Romanian Senate. He added that Moldova has a chance that Romania didn’t have and this chance is the Romanian state, which is Moldova’s friend.

“The Great Grigore Vieru was asked what distance was between Chisinau and Iasi. He answered that it was a heart-long distance. If the great poet said it was a heart-long distance, I wish that Moldova’s road to the EU to be a thought-long,” stated Crin Antonescu.

The president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Gheorghe Duca conferred the medal “Dimitrie Cantemir” on the Romanian official for strengthening the relations of friendship between Moldova and Romania.

Crin Antonescu paid a two-day visit to Moldova, on December 4 and 5.
