Two men from Comrat, aged 45 and 46 respectively, with a criminal record for drug trafficking, were arrested by Border Police officers under the coordination of prosecutors dealing with organized crime. The individuals were caught with prohibited substances worth approximately 200,000 lei. A third suspect, aged 39, from Cimislia, is being investigated out of custody, IPN reports.

Following searches, the authorities seized about 600 grams of marijuana, hemp seeds, methadone and pills with psychotropic effect. Investigators also discovered an illegally owned semi-automatic hunting weapon, 30 12-mm caliber cartridges, electronic scales and an apparently false Romanian identity card, which was presumably used to obtain methadone in Ukraine. The drugs were smuggled into Moldova camouflaged in packages sent by minibuses.

The two suspects had been earlier investigated for drug trafficking and one of them was serving the last part of his suspended sentence. At the request of prosecutors, the Court of Chisinau City ordered to remand the two in custody for 30 days.

Investigations continue to establish the entire criminal network.
