The accusations and the criminal case started against MP Sergei Sîrbu over active corruption were dropped. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said that it took such a decision after reaching the conclusion that the elements of an offense were absent, IPN reports.
The criminal case was started on October 28, 2019 following a denouncement submitted by another MP who asserted that Sergei Sîrbu tried to corrupt him so that he left the party of which he formed part.
Under the law, the decision taken by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office can be challenged in hierarchical order with the anticorruption prosecutor and then with the judge of inquiry.
MP Sergiu Sîrbu was summoned to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office at the end of this January. He was accused of trying to corrupt a politician. He then said that the accusations were false, while the case was fully political in character. The case was started by former acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu.
