The General Prosecutor's Office initiated a criminal investigation regarding the alleged food poisoning at the "Orizont" Theoretical High School, at the Ciocana sector branch, in Chișinău. Prosecutors are considering two versions of the event, one involving food poisoning, while the other - a viral illness.
Prosecutors investigate the case, taking into account its resonance and number of affected children. On the 11th and 12th of September, more than 100 children and teachers went to the school's medical office.
The director of the Ciocana branch Theoretical High School "Orizont", Ahmet Bilgi, said that so far no details are known about what happened, however, he ruled out the possibility of food poisoning. Currently, investigation officers are waiting for laboratory test results.
"Food poisoning is excluded. There is a virus in the city, not only in our school. I heard that something similar happened in Anenii Noi and involved very many cases", said Ahmet Bilgi.
Ion Toma, deputy director of the National Agency for Food Safety, told IPN that both versions, involving food poisoning and the viral illness, are being examined. Four children were admitted to the hospital as a result of the occurrence.
Following the epidemic investigation, it was found that the high school is equipped with appropriate equipment, which offers conditions for product storing. "So far, the investigation has not identified any violations that could confirm the possible cause", said the ANSA deputy director.
The laboratory tests will take at least five days to produce results.
