The General Prosecutor's Office informs that the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has opened, on October 29, a criminal case against the former leader of the Democratic Party, Vladimir Plahotniuc, for obtaining a second passport of the Republic of Moldova with another identity. According to the General Prosecutor's Office, the criminal case was started on charges of "abuse of service committed in the interest of an organized criminal group or criminal organization", IPN reports.
The General Prosecutor's Office does not mention who is investigated in this case, nor when the former PDM leader obtained the passport, but states that "all the necessary criminal investigation measures are taken in order to elucidate all the circumstances".
The offense based on which the criminal investigation was initiated is punishable by imprisonment from three to seven years, by the deprivation of the right to hold certain offices or to perform a certain activity for a term of 10 to 15 years.
The chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on national security, defense and public order, Chiril Moţpan, said on a TV show, and later confirmed at a press conference that the former leader of the PDM, Vladimir Plahotniuc, had a dual identity in the Republic of Moldova. Allegedly he has documents with his photo, but with other last name, first name, date of birth, residence. According to Chiril Moţpan, the document was obtained when the director of the Public Services Agency was Sergei Răilean, who reportedly is the godson of the current PDM chairman, Pavel Filip. According to the chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on national security, the Democrat Sergei Iaralov has also two Moldovan identities.
