The creative potential existing in the Republic of Moldova will be monetized through support programs and through institutions that are part of the process of developing the creative industries. The cultural and creative sectors will be developed in the Republic of Moldova through the program “Creative Moldova”. A law to attract foreign investments to filmmaking and the audiovisual sector will also take effect, representatives of the cultural and creative sectors of the Republic of Moldova announced in a news conference.
In the inauguration of the Festival of Creative Industries 2022 entitled “Creative Industries: Now and in the Future”, secretary of state at the Ministry of Culture Andrei Chistol said the creative industries will become a driving force in culture, which will promote young talents and the establishment of partnerships between players in the Republic of Moldova. There will be ensured continuous monetization of the cultural product and cultural services.
“We must increase the contribution of the cultural sector, the creative industries to the Gross Domestic Product and show that the creative industries are a sector that needs more investments from the perspective of digitalization,” stated the functionary, noting the creative community that has grown the past few years needs state support and the program “Creative Moldova” comes to give a development impetus to the creative industries.
Andrei Chistol also spoke about the programs to finance filmmaking. “Owing to the support we have received during several years from USAID, we developed the law to promote investments in local cinematographic productions. We want to attract foreign investors to the Republic of Moldova to make films. For the purpose, we need a proper environment so as to be ready to launch those big projects,” he stated.
“The long-awaited law to attract foreign investments to the shooting and audiovisual sectors is close to being adopted. We hope that next week the regulations that are being considered will be approved. We aim to implement the first financed pilot projects until the end of 2022 and by this “cash rebate” scheme Moldova will align itself with the 97 countries that have a scheme to stimulate foreign investment in filmmaking and the audiovisual sector. We also come with support schemes for entrepreneurs, co-financing for events with international speakers,” said the director of the Future Technologies Activity Doina Nistor.
She noted that the creative industries in Moldova are developing. “We have over 2,000 creative entrepreneurs in Moldova that are growing. These entrepreneurs offer 8,500 jobs in the creative industries. These jobs are well paid and enable young people to realize their potential at home,” stated Doina Nistor.
At the beginning of May, experts of the Ministry of Culture and the Government of the Republic of Moldova, together with the USAID Moldova Future Technologies Activity that is co-financed by the Government of Sweden, started to cooperate to create the strategy and policy framework for launching the National Project “Creative Moldova”.
