Children form Transnistria’s Dubasari town will be able to spend their leisure time in a useful way and in safe conditions at a community creative center that has been renovated with the support of the European Union, within the “Support to Confidence Building Measures” Program that is implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), IPN reports.

According to a press release of the program’s team, over 750 children annually attend the workshops of the creative center: tailoring, canto and choreography. Children from the town and also from Lunga, Corjova and Cocieri villages attend the 30 occupational courses in order to capitalize on their talents. However, due to the lack of basic amenities, the number of children constantly decreased.

Since it started to be used 65 years ago, the building has been modernized for the first time. The European Union provided over €136,000 for the purpose. The old roofs, windows and doors were changed, while the unreliable heating system was replaced by a new one. The façade was renovated and the décor elements were restored. The reconstruction works are projected to be completed this autumn.

At present, about 20 social facilities from both sides of the Nistru River are modernized via this program, including schools, homes of culture and health facilities. The “Support to Confidence Building Measures” Program was launched in 2009 and is financed by the EU and implemented by UNDP.
