During August 19-25, 2,675 Covid cases were reported in Moldova, including 353 cases were in the Transnistrian region. This is an increase of more than 20% compared to the previous week.
The number of cases among children ages 0-14 was 588, up 41.3% from the previous week. “Last week 200 children were being treated in hospital. There are enough beds. It’s summer and this means beds are now much more available that in the autumn and later”, said Health Minister Ala Nemerenco.
The authorities expect numbers to further increase in late August and early September due to increased mobility during the vacation period. “The biggest increase is usually at the end of August because there is a much higher number of trips. But in the second half of September, I think numbers will start decreasing”, said the minister.
No Covid-related casualties were reported last week.
