The novel coronavirus caused one more death in Moldova. This is a 79-year-old woman who worked as a doctor in the pre-hospital emergency medical assistance service, Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu announced after the March 27 meeting of the National Focal Point, IPN reports.
The minister said the woman was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital “Toma Ciorbă” on March 19 and on March 24 was transferred to the National Clinical Hospital after her state of health worsened owing to the diseases from which she suffered, including diabetes mellitus and cardiac insufficiency.
According to Viorica Dumbrăveanu, the woman devoted her entire life to healthcare and up to the last moment saved lives.
Ten persons with COVID-19 are now treated at the National Clinical Hospital and eight of them are in a serious condition. At the Infectious Diseases Hospital “Toma Ciorbă”, 25 infected persons are in a serious state.
As many as 177 cases of infection with COVID-19 have been confirmed in Moldova so far. The doctor is the second woman who died. A 61-year-old woman, who returned infected from Italy and was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital “Toma Ciorbă” with acute respiratory infection and bilateral pneumonia, died on March 18. She also suffered from chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
