The woman infected with COVID-19, who was in a serious state, died at the National Clinical Hospital last night, Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu informed in the morning of March 18.
After the meeting of the National Focal Point, the minister said the 61-year-old woman suffered from chronic diseases. She had diabetes mellitus and hypertension. The novel coronavirus is dangerous and manifests itself differently in every case, IPN reports.
National Clinical Hospital director Anatol Ciubotaru said they struggled to save the woman’s life for four days and four nights, but last night she suffered cardiac arrest. During two days, she was on assisted ventilation and was then intubated. The woman returned from Italy and stayed in her village for a week. The locality is now in quarantine. This is a case of non-observance of the self-isolation regime.
As regards the first woman who was diagnosed with COVID-19, she is to be discharged the next few days, when the second sample tests negative for the virus.
The authorities warn that the most efficient protection measure is for the persons to stay at home and to refrain from contacts with third persons. Special attention should be devoted to elderly people who suffer from heart and respiratory diseases and diabetes. Those who returned from risk areas should remain isolated for 14 days.
The persons who spread the epidemic disease face fines of up to 50,000 lei or at most three years in jail. As regards the non-observance of the infection prophylaxis, prevention and combating measures, if there is a danger to public health the fine is of up to 25,000 for private individuals and of up to 75,000 lei for legal entities. Fines of at most 25,000 lei will be imposed on those who will intentionally present false or incomplete personal data in epidemiological forms or will refuse to complete these.
