The Chisinau Court of Appeals rejected the PCRM’s application to cancel the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) to set up polling places abroad. The party’s jurist Sergiu Sarbu has told Info-Prim Neo he will challenge the court’s decision in the Supreme Court of Justice immediately after he finds out the motivated part of this decision.
Last week, the Communists appealed the CEC’s decision, arguing it was adopted on August 3, after the expiration of the term stated in the Electoral Code (July 31 in this case).
CEC president Eugeniu Stirbu said recently that the list of the polling places that will be opened abroad was drawn up on the basis of the application filed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. He stated that the August 3 decision only specifies the new addresses of some of the polling places.
As many as 78 polling places will be set up abroad for the September 5 constitutional referendum.
