A Chisinau court ordered to take into custody the sons of leader of the People's Action Movement Sergiu Mocanu -- Roman and Adrian Mocanu, which are now on the territory of the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The suspects' lawyer, Ion Dron, sent the prosecutor's office guarantee letters from a priest and a politician stating they may be held responsible that “Roman Mocanu and Adrian Mocanu do not represent any social danger, will not shirk from the probe and should not be isolated from society...”
Sergiu Mocanu told a briefing in front of the Romanian Embassy to Chisinau that if the court does not accept the requests that his sons are probed in freedom, they will not leave the embassy's quarters. According to Mocanu, “they stay on the territory of the Romanian embassy is not, in any case, an attempt to escape justice, but is done to shelter themselves from the police's abuses and to preserve their physical integrity.”
Roman and Adrian Mocanu are suspected of having beaten a young man in a Chisinau disco on August 10. They were arrested on September 20, and released on parole not to leave their domicile. On September 25, they jumped over the fence of the Romanian embassy, demanding for the protection of the Romanian state as both are also Romanian citizens. The Mocanus call the lawsuit as a political trial, commissioned by President Vladimir Voronin.
