The Chisinau Court of Appeal (CA) adopted on Tuesday, September 24, a conclusion by which it decided to organize the extraordinary session of the General Assembly of Judges on September 27, at 9.00 am, at the Trade Unions House. The Association of Judges mentions that the conclusion aims at executing the decision of the Chisinau CA of September 20, by which the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) was obligated to convene the Assembly, IPN reports.

The conclusion of the Chisinau Court of Appeal also establishes the agenda of the extraordinary session of the General Assembly of Judges, which would include two topics. The first concerns the resetting and reconfiguration of the self-administration body of the judicial authority. The second issue concerns the lifting of mandates of permanent and alternate members of the CSM, chosen from among the judges.

The adopted conclusion obliges the CSM secretariat to organize the process prior to the extraordinary meeting of the Assembly.

At the meeting on September 19, the CSM postponed the examination of the request of a group of judges to convene the General Assembly of Judges. The members of the Council ordered the judicial inspection to verify under what conditions the signatures were collected from the magistrates, more precisely if they knew for what they were signing. On Tuesday, September 24, the request to convene the Assembly was rejected. Meanwhile, on September 20, the Chisinau Court of Appeal obligated CSM to convene the General Assembly of Judges, at the initiative of at least 50 judges, after a group of incumbent judges went to court. Following this decision, the CSM has stated that it will file an appeal, also requesting the suspension of execution.
