The Chisinau Court of Appeals today postponed a hearing to examine Vlad Filat’s request to review a district court ruling that denied the former prime minister recourse to the Constitutional Court. The reason cited for the postponement is Filat’s health situation.
Victor Munteanu, lawyer for the former prime minister, told IPN he couldn’t offer details about his client’s health, other than that Filat has been prescribed a two-week treatment following a medical examination.
Preliminarily, the Court has postponed the hearing until June 13, even if this contradicts the two weeks’ period prescribed by the doctor, said Munteanu.
This is the second delay in Filat’s second case this week alone. The court sitting on Monday was postponed because apparently the administration of Prison no.13 for some reason had not received instructions to escort Filat to the Court.
In the second criminal case, Vlad Filat is being accused of having laundered large amounts of money that he had gained by passive corruption and influence peddling during his tenure as prime minister. For the latter charges, Filat was sentenced in 2016 to nive years in prison.
