Court of Appeals compels Ministry of Justice to present in court the registration file submitted by “European Action” Movement

The Chisinau Court of Appeals has obliged the Ministry of Justice (MJ) to present in court all the documents submitted by “European Union” Movement (EUM) for the registration of the party, EUM vice president Nicolae Rosca told a news conference on Thursday, January 24. In his words, at Tuesday’s court sitting, MJ representative sought to stop examining the request until the finalisation of the criminal proceedings initiated by the General Prosecutor’s Office. The Court of Appeals has rejected the petition and adjourned the court till January 30, obliging the MJ representative to present all the documents filed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EUM). Rosca hopes that at the next court sitting, if all the required documents will be presented, the court will come to a decision. Rosca also said that in case the court does not rule in its favour, EUM will appeal in superior courts, including the ECHR. EUM leader Anatol Petrencu labelled the refusal of the party’s registration as an illegality. As he says, MJ representative stated that there were about 130 allegedly forged signatures. Petrencu claims that this number is too low in order to justify the refusal of the registration. EUM leadership submitted to MJ all the necessary documents for registration on November 20, 2006. On January 2, the Ministry presented the decision on the refusal of the registration. The MJ’s decision says that “the examination of the application found numerous signs which prove that a significant part of signatures in the documents were forged”. The annexed documents were forwarded for examination to the General Prosecution Office. The founding congress of EUM was held in Chisinau on October 22, 2006. Over 6,600 persons have joined the Movement so far.
