Court of Appeals annuls CEC’s decision to rerun elections in Buteni village

The Court of Appeals has stricken down the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC), which scheduled for December 16 new elections for mayor and local council in Buteni village, Hancesti district. The decision had been brought to court by the representatives of the Communist Party. Therefore, CEC could see itself compelled to reconsider the proposal to exclude the Moldova Noastra’s candidate from the mayor’s race. Vasile Gafton, representative for CEC before the court, told Info-Prim Neo he would appeal the respective judgment in the Supreme Court of Justice, because the CEC’s decision was in full compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Code. If held, the elections on December 16 will mark the fourth attempt this year to elect a mayor in Buteni. Problems have emerged after the courts refused to declare Anatolie Postolache as winner, citing breaches of the Electoral Code. CEC scheduled repeat elections for July 1, but their outcome wasn’t declared valid either. The third attempt on October 14 was again cut short by a group of villagers who were disappointed that Postolache was excluded from the race.
