The Buiucani Court has formally allowed Vlad Filat to turn to the Constitutional Court for clarifications on some constitutional provisions that his defense thinks will help his case.

Filat’s lawyer Victor Munteanu told reporters the Constitutional Court will be asked in particular if the same panel of judges that heard Filat’s case on the merits may or may not hear his request for review as well.

Earlier Filat withdrew his request for constitutional clarifications saying he did not trust the Constitutional Court in light of its controversial rulings of June 7-9.

In the second criminal case against him, where he also pleads not guilty, Vlad Filat is being accused of having laundered large amounts of money that he had gained by passive corruption and influence peddling during his tenure as prime minister. On the latter charges, Filat was sentenced in 2016 to nive years in prison.
