A couple were convicted of intentionally misinforming about acts of terrorism. The 26-year-old man was sentenced to three years in a semi-closed prison, while the 18-year-old girl got one year and six months with two years’ probation, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the man, being held in Penitentiary No. 15 in Cricova, managed to transmit a mobile phone to his partner and later, through Messenger, instructed her to call the 112 Service to misinform about the planting of an explosive device.
On February 26, 2023, the young woman made a call and informed that an explosive device was placed at the Buiucani Court of Chisinau, disrupting the work program of the institution. Following checks, no explosives were detected there. By the same scheme, hoax calls were made on February 10, March 15, March 21, and April 7, 2023.
The young woman stated that she had known the defendant for a long time, before he was sent to jail. Subsequently, they started a relationship. The purpose of the hoax calls was to postpone court hearings in particular criminal cases.
The two pleaded guilty.
