Countries, NGOs provide aid after devastating floods in Moldova

The European Union and the member-countries have rapidly responded to the floods hitting Romania, Ukraine and Moldova, the European Commission announces, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The aid consists from boats, pumps, power generators, water cleaning equipment and other urgently needed articles. The EU supervision and information center has sent experts to Moldova and Ukraine to ease the coordination of the rescue operations and evaluate the needs in order to provide reconstruction assistance. The Estonian Foreign Ministry has granted humanitarian aid to Moldova and Ukraine worth 130,000 euros. The Czech Rep. will provide by 41,500 euros to each country. In addition, Moldova is to get 10 pumps, 6 power generators and 500 pairs of rubber boots. The International Red Cross Federation has already allocated 368,000 euros from its Emergency Fund to send immediate relief needs – water, food and clothes – to the areas affected in Moldova and Ukraine. The Red Cross appeals on donors to collect 1million Swiss francs (613,000 euros) to help 36,000 afflicted persons. Moldova Red Cross has emptied its disaster relief stocks and managed to provide assistance for 500 of the worst-affected families. The Turkish organization Kizilay (Red Crescent) has sent 4 trucks with food, beds, blankets, soap and kitchen equipment to help victims in Moldova and Ukraine, Info-Prim has learnt from international news agencies.
