Modern libraries are no longer just simple reading rooms. For some time, institutions in the country have been promoting technology endowment projects, launching new reading programs, especially for children and teenagers. Initiatives on the development of libraries in rural as well as urban areas, are presented today, November 14, at the Council of the Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova, held at the National Library, IPN reports.

The head of the Association of Librarians, Mariana Harjevschi, has mentioned that at today’s event, which represents a national conference, organized on yearly basis, the entire community of librarians was invited. As part of the event, librarians’ experience and success stories are shared.

Mariana Harjevschi has stated that this year is also the time for the next chairperson of the Association to pick up the torch for a three-year term. Today, a report is to be presented for the three years of office. The report includes the achievements resulting from the challenges faced by the library community and brings in suggestions for improvements.

Elena Pintilei, general director of the National Library, stressed that in order to meet the current requirements, the Association worked fruitfully under "Novateca" national project, substantial investments in public libraries being made. Also, leadership and advocacy projects as well as training in the field of information technologies have been carried out.

Director of „Mihai Eminescu” Public Library in Rezina, Galina Davâdic, referred to the actions taken to attract the readers to the library. For children, a reading room with age-appropriate literature has been arranged, which is also equipped with toys. Recently, the library has completed its collection with an impressive number of different-themed sound books. There are also books with 3D images and glasses. At the same time, the institution initiated a tour of the kindergartens in the city to present these books to the children.

The Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova was established in 1991. Currently, it comprises more than 1700 individual and collective members, representing the entire national system of information-library institutions: national, specialized, public, university, high school, school, college, etc. libraries.
