Costs of school meals for suburban children will be entirely covered by Chisinau budget

The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) on Monday, March 3, earmarked 2.178 million lei to provide children attending suburban schools with free meals. Earlier, the CMC adopted a decision providing free school meals only to the children studying in the city, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the decision of March 3, as many as 5,317 schoolchildren from 18 suburban communities will eat for free in school cafeterias. 3,386 first-fourth graders will have free breakfasts, while other 709 – and lunches, too. Breakfasts will be also provided to 959 fifth-ninth graders, and lunches to other 263. On January 22, the CMC raised the cost of school meals from 4 lei for breakfasts and 8 lei for lunches, as fixed by the Minister of Finance, to 5 lei and 11 lei, respectively. Some 29,100 schoolchildren in Chisinau Municipality enjoy free meals.
