The costs for repairing the Chisinau street Columna will be probably higher than initially projected owing to works that have not been planned because some of the pipes are not indicated on the maps of the street, Info-Prim Neo reports. During a visit to the street on September 14, Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the carried out works will significantly change the aspect of the region. They include not only asphalting and setting up of parking lots, but also pipe replacement. “The complexity of the works is evident. We want the works to be of a high quality and be performed correctly, especially because the infrastructure here is very old and includes many cables and pipes that are not indicated on maps. There were several accidents last week,” said the mayor. He also said that the works on the section of Columna St between the streets Mihai Viteazul and Serghei Lazo are close to completion. The first layer of asphalt was put and the parking lots are being built. The mayor stated they are considering making a lane for bicyclists. According to the mayor, the repair works on the section between the streets Serghei Lazo and Banulescu Bodoni will be finished when the weather permits. “We should not hurry the workers and the entrepreneurs as the works must be of a high quality. We do not want the situation of Alba-Iulia St to repeat,” said Chirtoaca. Adrian Boldurescu, head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division, said the street repair costs may increase by about 10% owing to the unplanned works. He informed that 25.5 million lei was allocated from the municipal budget for repairing Columna St.
