Costs for a recipient of compensated drugs at 828 lei

Medicines compensated from the mandatory health insurance funds last year were prescribed to almost 740,000 people. Over 440,000 of the recipients got drugs for cardiovascular system diseases, while about 108,000 – anti-diabetic dugs. The costs for a recipient rose to 828 lei, IPN reports.

The National Health Insurance Company said that 612 million lei was allocated for compensating medicines last year. The list of compensated drugs in 2020 was extended by ten new international common names. Currently, it includes 158 such names.

The compensated drugs are intended for pregnant women and children younger than 18 and persons with acute and chronic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, diseases of the cardiovascular, digestive and respiratory systems, endocrine disorders, rare diseases. They are prescribed by the family doctor or by the health specialist.

The list is available from the family doctor and drugstores, on the website of the National Health Insurance Company or through the Company’s Info Service on 0 800 99999.
