Director general of the Customs Service Vitalie Vrabie ordered to initiate designing works to extend and modernize the customs posts Costesti and Otaci. The instructions were given during an inspection visit at the given posts, IPN reports.

According to the Customs Service, the decision to extend the Costesti customs post was taken because the Sculeni customs post is overcrowded. Such a solution was agreed with the customs authority of Romania. As to the Otaci customs post, besides executing works to develop its infrastructure, the Customs Service’s administration also ordered to identify a plot where to set up the customs check area for trucks, near the customs post. This will enable to diminish the waiting time in customs posts for this type of vehicles.

The Otaci customs post is daily crossed by 770 units of transport on average. Of these, over 180 are trucks. As the infrastructure is poorly developed and there are only three lanes in both directions, lines often form there.
