Cost-efficiency of cervical cancer screening is greater than treatment costs

The cost-efficiency of cervical cancer screening is threefold greater than the costs of treating advanced stages of cancer, shows an assessment report by the National Health Insurance Company, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The National Health Insurance Company is financing the first national cervical cancer screening program. As a result of the screening, there are detected the early and pre-cancer stages that enable to save 80% of the sick women, while all the women who have cancer and pre-cancer are included in the common database. The program is coordinated with the Oncology Institute and is implemented by three categories of medical-sanitary institutions authorized to provide such kind of services. More than 53,000 women aged between 25 and 29 underwent the screening during July 2011 – August 2012. The screening represents an initial examination that consists of a number of procedures and techniques used to presumptively detect a disease, anomaly or risk factors. It is aimed at diagnosing the disease in its early stages when it can be cured.
