Corruption cases at Baccalaureate exams will be made public

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca ordered that all the information about the illegal collection of money for Baccalaureate exams be made known. He said that “it is known that the administration takes prompt action in such cases.” The subject was discussed at the meeting of the Chisinau City Hall on May 25, Info-Prim Neo reports. “There are several problems concerning the illegal collection of money and the activity of parents’ associations. The mentality about the exams and assessments should be changed because they resort to different methods in order to get a good mark or achieve the result they want,” the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb said at the meeting. She said that they take immediate action after they are informed about such cases. “We go to the schools, but the parents do not want to come. We try to discuss with the parents and the president of the parents’ association. But, under the law, these associations can be inspected only by empowered bodies,” Tverdohleb said. This year, the Baccalaureate exams will be taken in the institutions where the students studied, on condition that there are at least 25 graduates. The exams will take place in large rooms like gymnasiums or halls. “Such a decision was taken in order to avoid crowdedness and the noise made by the other students,” Tverdohleb said. The first Baccalaureate exam will be held on June 2. A number of 5,620 students from 72 centers will take it in the municipality of Chisinau. Another 2,243 students will graduate from secondary schools, while 8,751 students in the municipality will take ninth grade graduation exams.
