Programs director at the Center for Politics and Reforms Dumitru Alaiba said that while the corrupt persons in Romania pave the way for stealing something, those from Chisinau are one step ahead. According to him, in Chisinau they already stole and now want to legalize the loot by adjusting the legislation. Dumitru Alaiba made reference to the legislative initiative on tax and capital amnesty that was passed in the first reading, which, according to him, has only one goal – to legalize the money earned from illegal activities, IPN reports.
“The justification of the bill, its purpose and consequences are rather bad or even sick for our society. That’s why I think that this bill deserves only to be abandoned and such proposals should never be discussed again,” Dumitru Alaiba stated in an interview for Radio Free Europe.
As to the capital amnesty of 2007, Dumitru Alaiba said that amnesty didn’t lead to fiscal discipline, exploding investments or a cleaner, more civilized and better economy. This way they do not grow economy, but stimulate corruption and encourage those who got used to obtaining property illegally and wait for the moment to legalize it, while the honest people are always discouraged.
“So, the person who pays taxes and works looks around and remains very disappointed by such signals that are transmitted in our society. At the same time, knowing that our Parliament can make sudden moves, we, society in general, will not be surprised if this bill is simply adopted in the second reading and becomes law at 9am, 10am, one night or in three minutes. We want to see this bill rejected, not left somewhere in drawers in Parliament, but rejected officially,” said Dumitru Alaiba.
As to the investigation into the bank fraud, Dumitru Alaiba noted this this does not move on. “It’s clear that the authorities do not intend to complete this investigation. We see no efficient communication with the public, with donors and development partners about what happened. We see only some smoke. The authorities imposed an embargo on this issue. They can speak about anything, not yet about the banking frauds,” he stated.
