Culture influences directly the people’s vote. There is practically no rational vote that is not influenced by culture in Moldova and this is normal, stated politologist Cornel Ciurea.
Contacted by IPN, the politologist said that in Moldova there are several types of political culture, namely: post-Soviet or nostalgic; patrimonial (nepotism); post-modernist (of the young people who study abroad) and nationalist (hysterical, of the unionists or patriots). There are also different mixtures of these types of culture.
The geopolitical views of the voters can also influence the vote to a great extent. “In fact, the geopolitical options are defining. Other elements can be added to them, but these are secondary,” he stated.
According to Cornel Ciurea, the voters are rather well informed, but the problem is that the information is not objective and cannot be as such. The voters obtain information from information bearers that are all manipulators, without exception. Also, the voters are vulnerable to electoral corruption and can be corrupted by anything, including a pack or rice.
The politologist noted that the only difference between the voters in the country and those who are abroad is that the Moldovans abroad vote hysterically because they have the mistaken feeling that somebody owes them something.
He considers that Moldova should expect an ordinary President because the Head of State cannot do big changes in a state that depends on the Government and Parliament.
Cornel Ciurea anticipates that mainly elderly and middle-aged people will vote in the upcoming presidential elections, as it happened in the previous elections.
