A mechanism for regulating local taxes is needed to avoid the situation when taxes vary considerably from one region to another. The statement was made by Speaker Igor Corman in response to concerns expressed by mayors and district heads over the Parliament's decisions to adopt a local tax cap, IPN reports.
“Between 2011 and 2013, local councils adopted decisions by which taxes were increased by 700%, 800% or even 900%. On the other hand, cases were discovered when some companies were exempted from taxes”, Corman told a press briefing.
The official said that a clear mechanism of regulating these taxes was needed in order to ensure fair conditions for companies.
Many representatives of local authorities requested the Parliament to cancel the new legal provisions regarding the cap or annulment of some local taxes. According to local authorities, these provisions will cause them losses of 200 million in 2014.
