CORLEAP comes to Chisinau

For the first time outside of the borders of the EU, the Conference of the Regional and Local Authorities for the Eastern Partnership (CORLEAP) will meet in Chisinau. Officials from 15 European states are expected at the meeting, i.e. a total of 100 people comprised of CORLEAP members, representative of the Assembly of European Regions, city Mayors, regional politicians, reports Info-Prim Neo.
According to a communiqué from the Chisinau City Hall, this reunion is a consequence of the fact that on May 30, current year, Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca was appointed co-president of the CORLEAP.
The event will be attended by Kristalina Georgieva, European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Ramon Luis Valcarcel Siso, head of the Regional Committee, Mercedes Bresso, ex-president of the CoR and co-president of the CORLEAP, Gerard Stahl, secretary general of the Committee of the Regions, as well as CORLEAP members from the 6 members of the Eastern Partnership, and namely Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, and Moldova.
The event will be attended by Kristalina Georgieva, European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, President of the EU Committee of the Regions and co-president of the CORLEAP, Mercedes Bresso, First Vice-President of the CoR, as well as CORLEAP members both from the CoR and from the 6 members of the Eastern Partnership, and namely Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, and Moldova.
The conference will approach issues regarding the reform of the local and regional public administration, the development of local democracy, and the necessities specific to local and regional administrations. Meanwhile, examples of successful projects will also be provided.
The Conference of the Regional and Local Authorities for the Eastern Partnership was created in 2011, aiming at the establishment of a dialogue platform between local and regional authorities from partner countries and the EU. Currently, the platform is comprised of 36 Mayors and regional politicians.
The event will take place in Chisinau on September 17, at the Leogrand Hotel & Convention Center.
