A polling place will be set up in Corjova village for the June 5 local elections, secretary of the Central Election Commission of Moldova (CEC) Andrei Volentir stated for Info-Prim Neo when asked to comment on the statements made by the chairman of Transnistria’s CEC Pyotr Denisenko. The latter said that nobody has the right to establish polling places in Transnistria, except for cases when there is an agreement between heads of state. “There is no such electoral body for us and none of their decisions are valid. There will be a polling place in Corjova. We are now considering where to open it,” said Andrei Volentir. The CEC secretary did not rule out the possibility of setting up the polling place in a neighboring village. “The law does not say that the polling place should be established within the geographical limits of the settlement. We will find a suitable place for the polling place so as to avoid provocations,” said Andrei Volentir. According to the agency “Novyi Reghion”, after a meeting with the Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov, Pyotr Denisenko told the press that Transnistria will not allow opening a polling place in Corjova and that such a decision can be taken only by the Transnistrian Central Election Commission or at the level of heads of state.
