The Special Representative of the German OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process Cord Meier-Klodt Meier, after the working visit to Chisinau and Tiraspol, will go to Moscow and Kiev to discuss with the mediators in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks. The diplomat aims to pave the way for organizing a round of the 5+2 format talks at the start of next month. Ambassador Meier-Klodt informed about this in a news conference at the end of his visit to Moldova, IPN reports.

The diplomat said that a month ago, during his visit to Moldova, the mediators confirmed their readiness to organize the next round of talks in two months and this objective remained unchanged. “I encouraged the sides to cooperate, to work together on the set objective, to organize meetings of the political representatives and the working groups. I had substantial meetings with the chief negotiators here and in Tiraspol,” stated Ambassador Meier-Klodt.

In the meeting, the official underlined what should be yet done for the round of talks to be organized as the sides have obligations towards the people from the two sides of the Nistru and must act together to move things on. “After these successful meetings, I will go to other mediators. I go to Moscow and Kiev to have consultations on what I heard here and to advance towards the set objective. I’m satisfied with what I heard, but I reiterate that we must concentrate so as to manage to achieve the goal,” said the diplomat.

According to Cord Meier-Klodt, the next round of talks in the 5+2 format will take place at the beginning of June, after a hiatus of over a year and a half.
