Coordinating Council for Fighting Crime and Corruption set up

The first sitting at which the Coordinating Council for Fighting Crime and Corruption was created unfolded on Friday, December 26, under the presidency of deputy prime minister Valentin Mejinschi, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the government’s press service.
Valeriu Balaban, the first deputy premier's counselor was appointed as the Council’s secretary.
The results obtained by law enforcers in preventing and fighting crime and corruption in 2008 has been drawn at the sitting, as the priority directions for 2009 were outlined.
The coordinating council was created through a Government’s decision on November 28, 2008.
Its members are: Valentin Mejinschi, the first deputy prime-minister, the council’s president; Valeriu Gurbulea, the general prosecutor; Artur Resetnicov, the director of the Information and Security Service; Ala Popescu, the head of the Court of Accounts; Vitalie Parlog, the Justice Minister; Gheorghe Papuc, the Interior Minister; Sergiu Burduja, the director of the Economic Crimes and Corruption Combating Center; Viorel Melnic, the general director of the Customs Office; Igor Colenov, the general director of the Border Guard Service.
The next sitting of the council will take place on January 28, 2009.
