The cooperation of the Republic of Moldova with the OSCE was discussed by acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi with OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid in Vienna. The interlocutors conferred on topical issues from the OSCE’s agenda, devoting special attention to the improvement of the efficiency of this organization in preventing and regulating conflicts in the OSCE area, IPN reports.

Aureliu Ciocoi, who also serves as minister of foreign affairs and European integration, approved of the readiness stated by Helga Schmid to support the efforts aimed at identifying a comprehensive and viable solution to the Transnistrian conflict. He expressed his confidence that the relations of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the OSCE will continue to develop in a pragmatic way so as to foster the dialogue within political negotiations.

The acting Premier noted that Moldova devotes special attention to the process of withdrawing the troops and munitions from Moldova’s territory. He underlined the importance of the OSCE’s support and assistance in ensuring transparency in the process. The two officials also took stock of other activities from the cooperation agenda, such as the freedom of the press, the respect for the human rights and promotion of an inclusive and tolerant society.

Aureliu Ciocoi also had a meeting with Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting, the Special Representative of the Swedish OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process. The diplomats discussed the priorities in the settlement process this year, with emphasis on aspects that refer to the protection of human rights and the freedom of movement between the two banks of the Nistru.

The officials reaffirmed the interests in further supporting the efforts made to identify a comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Transnistrian conflict, by observing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders, by offering a special status to the Transnistrian region.
