The former vice president of the Chisinau Appeals Court Gheorghe Cretu was put on probation for two years and fined 6,000 lei. He was found guilty of hunting illegally and of unintentionally killing a man while hunting in the Domneasca Forest in December 2012. The sentence was passed by the Falesti Court in the evening of February 4.
The information was confirmed for IPN by prosecutor Alexandru Caraman. The other three persons involved in this case were acquitted. These are the former director of “Moldsilva” Agency Ion Lupu, the head of the Natural Reserve “Padurea Domneasca” Denis Irimciuc, and former guard engineer Valeriu Svistun.
The prosecutors asked for four years in jail for each of the four persons. Alexandru Caraman said the argumentation of the sentence will be available on March 3. After the prosecutors analyze it, they will decide whether to appeal the decision to a higher court or not.
The court also decided that Gheorghe Cretu will pay 850,000 lei in respect on non-pecuniary damage to Sorin Paciu’s family. Of this sum, Sorin Paciu’s wife will get 250,000 lei, their daughter – 100,000 lei, while his parents – 500,000 lei. Cretu will also pay by 1,500 lei a month for maintaining the child, until she turns 18, as well as 70,000 lei in respect of pecuniary damage. The damages were sought by the victim’s family and were accepted by the court.
In December 2012, a man aged 35 from Chisinau, Sorin Paciu, was shot dead during hunting in the Domnesca Forest. The hunting involved Valeriu Zubco, who was prosecutor general in that period. The case was made public by a politician on January 6, 2013.
