The Newport University did not confirm the diploma of master of Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean, reported Publika TV. In an official letter to the TV channel, the university’s administration says that they never had a student from Moldova named Dorin Recean. At the same time, the newspaper “Adevarul” (“Truth”) published the statement of the Special Representative of Newport University for Eastern Europe Eric Everdijk, who said that Dorin Recean indeed studied for his master’s degree in Belgium, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The fact that Dorin Recean has a diploma of master from Newport University, Belgium branch, is stated in his CV, both on the website of the Government and on the Ministry of the Interior’s website. At the inquiry of Publika TV, the university’s administration responded that they never had a student named Dorin Recean. Moreover, the university has only one branch in Europe, in Latvia.
Publika TV made a similar inquiry to the Ministry of Education of Belgium. Officials of the Ministry said that Newport University wasn’t accredited by the Government of Belgium. Thus, there is no branch of this university on the country’s territory. According to the officials, they themselves tried to find out more about Newport University, but found only succinct information in Wikipedia, with a link that cannot be accessed.
But the newspaper “Adevarul” wrote that Eric Everdijk, Special Representative for Eastern Europe of Newport University, which afterward changed its name into Janus University, denied the accusations that the minister of the interior has a false diploma of master, as the leader of “Antimafie” Movement Sergiu Mocanu asserted.
“Dorin Recean was our student. I can confirm this anytime as he studied in Belgium, where we have a branch. He did a part of the courses in Moldova, but they were taught by lecturers accredited by our university. He successfully graduated Newport University, which later changed its name into Janus University. Another 15-20 Moldovan students and about 300 foreign students graduated the university together with him in that period,” said Eric Everdijk.
In a news conference on January 9, Sergiu Mocanu said that Dorin Recean bought the diploma of master and is thus blackmailed by First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc because of this. For his part, the minister published on a social networking site a picture showing him and his mates of the 2000 class of Newport University, Belgium branch. According to his CV, he studied there for his master’s degree in 1998 - 2000.
