The Moldovan authorities must analyze carefully the provisions of the contract for leasing out the International Airport as such an action can produce negative results, considers Henrik Hololei, head of cabinet of the Vice President of the European Commission, responsible for transport, IPN reports.
In a news conference in Chisinau, Henrik Hololei said the authorities do not have the necessary capacities to administer efficiently an airport. That’s why an experienced company is needed to take over the administration of the airport. No company will want to manage an airport if they do not receive guarantees that the airport will be leased out for a certain period of time. Europe’s experience in this field was different. There were both positive and negative practices as regards the leasing out of airports.
“They say the devil is in the details. We will see what the contract for leasing out the International Airport includes. I wish success to the Moldovan authorities so that they sign a good agreement,” stated Henrik Hololei.
The negotiations on the contract for leasing out the state-run company Chisinau International Airport aren’t yet over. Seven companies announced their participation in the contest to lease out the airport, but five companies gave up afterward. The two remaining companies are the Vnukovo Airport in Moscow and the winner of the tender contest Komaks, which administers the Habarovsk airport and with which talks are now carried out. If the negotiations fail, a new contest will be announced.
