In reaction to the accusations made by Minister of Education Maia Sandu, the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport announced that it stopped the contest to name directors and vice directors of schools and is waiting for the official publication of the regulations worked out by the Ministry of Education, IPN reports.
The contest was to be held on May 11-13, based on the regulations approved by the local authorities. On May 6, Minister Maia Sandu gave a news conference, accusing the local authorities of Chisinau of abuse of power, given that they adopted their own regulations concerning the holding of contests for appointing education institution managers.
The Division’s head Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb made a comment, saying given that the Ministry’s new regulations were late to appear in the Official Gazette, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca assumed responsibility and made an order, instructing the Division to organize and hold the contest to choose school principals. In the absence of the new regulations, many of the municipal education institutions found themselves in an uncertain situation.
