The contest to choose a candidate for the post of judge of the Constitutional Court failed. None of the candidates garnered the necessary number of votes. The decision was presented by the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) on June 15, IPN reports.
After deliberations, the new acting president of the SCM Dorel Musteață said that none of the 15 candidates gained the necessary number of votes after the interview stage. A new contest will be announced and the conditions and deadline for submissions will be specified.
In the last part of the meeting, Socialist MP Vasile Bolea was removed from the competition to fill the vacancy of judge of the Constitutional Court.
The contest involved 16 candidates and these included the candidate for MP on behalf of the Electoral Bloc of the Communists and the Socialists Vasile Bolea. The MP asked to put off the meeting of the SCM for the reason that he is campaigning and cannot attend. As a result of deliberations, his request was rejected. After the first stage of the contest – preselection based on the received documents - the SCM members decided that Vasile Bolea does not meet the conditions for applying for the post and only 15 candidates were admitted to the interview stage.
Among the candidates for the post of CC judge are university lecturer Alexandru Arseni, several lawyers and the president of the Chisinau City Court Radu Țurcanu.
