The contest to select the candidate for office of prosecutor general was prolonged until December 29 by a decision taken by the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP), IPN reports.

The issue was examined behind closed doors. As a result of deliberations, it was decided to extend the contest without specifying the reasons for such a decision. Three members of the SCP formulated separate opinions.

On October 23, the SCP announced a contest to choose the prosecutor general and the deadline for submissions was November 22. Two persons applied to take part in the contest – lawyer Ilie Rotaru and prosecutor Igor Demciucin, deputy to the acting prosecutor general.

The contest was announced after Alexandru Stoianoglo was dismissed from the post of prosecutor general at the end of this September. Earlier, in October 2021, he was suspended from office.
