The contest to fill the vacancy of president of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) was put off by the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM) at the suggestion of Council member Dorel Musteață, who said that the contest cannot be held online, IPN reports.
Dorel Musteață noted that contests to fill the posts of SCJ president and vice president of the Court’s Penal Board and of the Civil, Commercial and Administrative Board cannot be held online. Such practices didn’t exist earlier. The SCM members cannot be deprived of the right to have deliberations where information about each contestant would be presented. The contests should be put off as it is not clear how the members of SCM will vote.
Council member Mariana Timotin said it is not clear how to vote in accordance with the procedures. The SCM could come together in a larger hall by observing all the sanitary norms.
SCM member Petru Moraru, who applied for the post of SCJ president, said such contests should be held in real conditions.
The contest to fill the vacancy of president of the Supreme Court of Justice involves five candidates. These are judges Anatolie Țurcan, Liliana Catan, Ion Guzun and SCM members Victor Micu and Petru Moraru.
In the same meeting, the SCM extended for 20 days the contest to fill the post of vice president of the SCJ’s Penal Board. The contest to choose the vice president of the SCJ’s Civil, Commercial and Administrative Board was also extended. The reason was that only by one candidate applied in both of the cases.
