A contest of grants for developing businesses in the northern districts of Moldova was launched in Bălți by People in Need Moldova as part of the project “A new impetus for developing businesses in the North Regional Development Region of Moldova” (2017-2019). The contest is intended for small and medium-sized enterprises and submissions are accepted until November 25, IPN reports.

According the North Regional Development Agency, the country director of People in Need Moldova Silvia Bicenco told a news conference that through the agency of the activities held within the project they aim to support the business community in the north development region. The grants are designed for members of business associations, business incubators and SMEs based in northern Moldova.

Director of the North Regional Development Agency Vitalii Povonskii said the contest is aimed at stimulating the entrepreneurial initiatives in regions and at creating activity conditions for all the businesspeople. “Owing to the development of businesses, the value of the infrastructure investment projects we implement in the region will increase,” he stated.

Head of the Agency’s Cooperation and Investment Attraction Section Maria Prisăcari said that even if the SMEs hold a dominant share in the economy, the sector remains affected owing to the reduced production activities, access to capital, technology, infrastructure and adaptability to the market requirements.

The budget of the contest is about €100,000. The participants can apply for grants of €2,000 to €5,000. Details about the contest that was launched in Bălți on November 5 are available from the Agency’s website .

The project is financed by the Czech Development Agency and is implemented by People in Need Moldova in partnership with the North Regional Development Agency and the public association “Pro Cooperare Regională” (“Pro Regional Cooperation”).
