80 works were presented at the National Museum of Fine Arts of Moldova at the the third edition of the International Biennial Contemporary Engraving N-E exhibition, Iași - Chișinău, 2019. The exhibition is open to the general public as of today and until November 13.
According to the organizers, the exhibition presents the current trends and area of interest of graphic artists from four continents and offers the possibility of discovering the different artistic techniques and trends specific to this branch of visual arts.
The director of the National Museum of Fine Arts, Tudor Zbârnea, said that the event occurred thanks to the collaboration with colleagues from Iași. He said that it is an important exhibition for the artists, for Iasi, for Romania and for Moldova, because engraving is an increasingly rare technique. Artists from over 30 countries participate in the contest-exhibition.
The rector of the "George Enescu" National University of Arts in Iași, Atena Elena Simionescu, said that, from a concept point of view, this exhibition allows to see the evolution of engraving. According to the rector, changes take place in this field due to the usage of different materials and because people change. This field of art reflects what society feels and reflects the artists’ universe.
Lăcrămioara Stratulat, the director of the Art Museum within the National Museum Complex "Moldova" from Iasi, said that this edition is the most successful of the three biennials organized so far.
During the competition, 195 works were submitted. Of these, 148 were selected to be included in the Iași exhibition. In total, 130 artists from 34 countries registered for the competition.
